Gun Rights and the Second Amendment
If anyone tries to take my gun away from me, he had better bring a bigger gun, a preacher, and his mother because the dam is going to break. – Otis "Bullman" Hensley.
Our Constitution and Bill of Rights were established, and are defended, with blood. We should not be so quick and ready to give up any of our rights, and we must be particularly wary of giving up our rights in exchange for security. I believe in the saying, "Don't give up your rights for security because you will wind up with neither one." Laws only control law-abiding citizens. We cannot rely upon them to protect us from law-breakers. I will stand tall in support of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Buford Pusser is a role model for me.
Many people shoot assault rifles at gun clubs for enjoyment. Kentucky has machine gun shoots that attract thousands from outside the state each year. I do not believe that we should restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens because of a few who abuse their rights. We should crack down hard on violators rather than restrict the rights of responsible, law-abiding citizens
I support the Second Amendment and will do whatever I can as Governor to protect the right of the people to own guns. With the crime that exists in our society today, I believe that a man should have a right to carry a gun with him, except in public buildings and private establishments that wish to prohibit guns on their property.
My Grandfather, Claude Hensley, was an excellent marksman; however, I seem to have wandered away from that tree. I shot at an animal that was eating my pig's food 9 times and missed every time. My sons, Duane and Travis, though, are avid hunters.
If you own, or are a member of, a gun club or are a gun enthusiast, send me a letter and tell me how I can help you. If you have lost your right to own a gun, I want to know about that, too.
Amendment II to the United States Constitution
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
