Platform For The Common Man

If I make it as your next governor, for the first time in history, I will hold the biggest pig roast ever in front of the Capitol. But to attend, you have to wear a straw hat or overalls. This will be the first party in history that has ever been called for the common people of this state. I am a plain ol' country boy, a common man, as are many of you. I have a pot-belly pig named Scrubbs, a dog named Jill, and 3 cats.

I want to create hundreds of thousands of jobs to increase household incomes throughout Kentucky.

I want to make health care affordable so that Kentuckians without health insurance can get it.

I want to help low-income households, senior citizens, the disabled, and others who are struggling to make ends meet lessen their burden. I will do whatever I can to reduce the cost of living so that they can buy more with their limited income. I will ask that a commission be established to recommend changes that we can make that will reduce the cost of living in Kentucky. The cost of living can be reduced by reducing the cost imposed on us by government taxation, regulation, and lawsuits and by reducing the cost of health care and workers compensation insurance.

I want to further improve education facilities throughout Kentucky and give public school teachers a larger raise than they recently received.

I want to help those with special needs live a more independent life by creating more jobs and education opportunities for them. I want to establish a central source for them to call for help if they need it. Those with special needs will have a voice in my administration. Two of my closest advisors, Tom Rossi from Hodgenville and Tina Coots from Hazard, are persons with special needs. There are over 874,000 people with special needs in Kentucky.

I want to improve the Family Court system. I want the system oriented to benefit children, rather than the State, attorneys, and counselors. Parents should not be impoverished by excessive child support obligations and excessive legal and consultant bills. A child should have a right to see either parent (and grandparents) whenever he/she wants, and this right should be superior to a Court order. Grandparents should be able to see their grandchildren, too. I also want to end the fear that parents feel from Child Protection Service personnel. If you have a problem with the Family Court system, I want to know about it. Send me a letter.

I know of several people who have lost their Commercial Driver's License (CDL) over child support issues. I fail to understand the logic to this practice. How do we help a child by taking away a parent's ability to earn a living? I will do everything in my power as Governor to help them get back their licenses and their lives. I will put them back to work. If you have lost your CDL or driver's license or your ability to earn a living has been limited by Court actions over child support issues, then I want to know about it. If your child support obligation takes most of your paycheck, then I want to know about that, too. Send me a letter. We must put the needs of our children first!

I want to help small businesses create more jobs by reducing their cost of doing business and providing an additional source of funds for new businesses and small businesses that want to grow. I also want to reduce the cost of workers compensation insurance.

I want to see more cellular towers put in to serve the people of Kentucky.

I want to push the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour.

I want to make car insurance affordable for more Kentuckians. I will propose a plan to insure your operator's license, instead of each of your cars, for $29.95 per month.

I want to use abandoned schools throughout the state as gathering places for the young and old. Too many of our children have nothing to do, and many seniors sit at home with no way to meet other people. Abandoned schools can be used to host recreational activities and serve as meeting places for clubs and organizations.

I want to hear from you. If you are involved in a club, a group, or organization, send me a letter. If you have a plan to make Kentucky the greatest state in the United States of America, send me a letter. If you have a problem with any State agency, I want to hear about it. Send me a letter. I am here to help the people of Kentucky who are overlooked or ignored by the professional politicians who run this state. However, before I can help, people have to talk to me.

I want to know the concerns of college students in Kentucky. I understand that many of them do not vote because they believe that politicians do not understand them. I want to reach out and include the concerns of college students in my campaign. Send me a letter, I want to hear from you.

I am proud to call myself a Kentuckian. I'm not promising that I'll be Kentucky's greatest governor and I may seem to fall down in the mud and wallow at times, but I will always stand up and do what is right for the people of Kentucky. I will put the people first.
